As a Republican and Christian, I was encouraged to learn of your letter to Uganda's President Museveni. I agree with your assessment that their proposal (that would impose life sentences and/or the death penalty on those accused of being homosexual and impose jail sentences to anyone who does not report "known homosexuals.") is antithetical to the Christian spirit of love and mercy.
However, I question your motive for writing the letter, when taken in context with your past activities. You've been reported to be a core member of the Family, which has been linked to the antigay efforts in Uganda. ( http://bit.ly/6RTBNH
Last September, you also voted against the federal hates crimes legislation which will help protect citizens from antigay-motivated murder, beating and intimidation in the US.
The current state in Uganda is a prime example of the need, worldwide, for legislation that assures that all people receive equal protection and the God-given rights of all humanity. It's also a cautionary tale of what happens when evangelicals spread lies about gay and lesbian people.
I ask you to please reconsider your words and actions, next time, BEFORE you fan the flames of hatred. Examine your words BEFORE you repeat lies about gays and lesbians. And try to truly act with the Christian spirit of love and mercy, rather than merely urging others to do so. Real lives are ended and ruined because of your deeds.
