Janie Womack CD Release Party, 8 pm June 30 at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg

Clover Lane Coffee House is pleased to host the CD release party of Harrisburg-based singer/songwriter Janie Womack at 8 pm Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg, 1280 Clover Lane. Admission is $10 donation at the door; all are welcome.  Janie will be accompanied by multiple local artists who participated in creating the CD, including Bobbi Carmitchell  (guitar, bass, vocals), Chris Merritt (guitar, vocals), Dani Fiore(percussions,  guitar), Marianne McKenna (guitar), and Julie Lowery (vocals).

Janie was born and raised in rural Texas, where she sang three-part harmony with her two sisters, with her mother playing baritone ukulele and her father singing bass accompaniment.  Early musical influences included Harry Belafonte, Odetta, Simon and Garfunkel, and Peter Paul & Mary.   In her teens and early 20s she played a few local (Texas) venues, but didn’t pursue active performing until moving to Pennsylvania.  Over the past 20 years, she  has been involved with the Central Pennsylvania Womyn’s Chorus;  an a capella group, 3 J’s and a C, most of whose members started jamming with Annette Abbondanza and eventually became the band “tlo [the legend of] stone soup;”   in a duo with Chris Merritt (also from stone soup) called Plan B; then solo.  In 2006 she began singing with Julie Lowery as “Womack & Lowery,” then last year the duo absorbed Dani Fieore and Chris Merrit, becoming the quartet “Herr Street.”

Her CD, "Songs in the Key of J," is the result of five years of work on Janie’s part.  In addition to the coffee house guest artists named above, other musicians on the CD include Renee Bartholomew, Pat George, and Jeff Meglio.
